The first industrial revolution in America was a diverse population of immigrants moving from an agrarian culture into a revolutionized society powered by machinery, factories and textile production. Children were working in factories, tending to the fields, or working for the family,not attending school. Education was not the epicenter of childhood, but rather work and sustaining life. As a result lawmakers drafted legislation that ended the practice of child labor in America
